I have since had a look at the motor controller board. It is a real mess. First of all, both fuses have blown up in spectacular fashion and splattering the PCB. Over half of the BYW950 diodes have actually cracked or are shorted. All of the G4RC10S output transistors are shorted etc.
I will have to get a quote on the required parts but it looks like repairing this machine is not going to be an economical proposition.
Cheers.

The unit does not power-up at the moment. I guess there is an internal fuse somewhere.
Yes there are slight signs of water leakage into the motor. I will have to remove the shaft and check the seals for the source of the leakage. After closer inspection, it appears that there might have been tracking between the two adjacent coils on the stator.
There are slight signs of corrosion on the rotor position sensor PCB but I assume that will be replaced with a new stator assembly.
Is there anywhere I can get a schematic drawing of the machine?

ParticipantRe: F&P GW709au over filling
Thanks for the reply to my overfilling problem. I thought my latest findings might be of interest to other readers on this forum that are experiencing similar problems. I found that the water level tube was ok but suspect that the problem was caused by fabric softener gumming-up the aperture for the water level tube. Although I have not taken the bowl out to verify it, I previously detached the tube from the pressure sensor and blew through the tube to clear it which fixed the problem for a while. I have also cleaned large quantities of fabric softener residue from under the agitator and from other areas that do not come in contact with the washed items. The mains water in Adelaide is fairly hard so it might be contributing to the problem. When the fabric softener goes gummy, it does not dissolve even if the bowl is filled with water and left to stand overnight. Soaking in dishwasher detergent does not remove it either.
If anyone knows of a simple way of dissolving residual fabric softener that has gone gummy, I would appreciate your input.
