    spimps, thanks for your advice. checked the insulation and it was extremely thin in places so I have decided to replace the oven.

    Martin It is a fan assisted oven with a small set of blades on the cabinet side, and appears to be running OK.

    The gas pipe above the oven is copper. I was just concerned that it got hot.
