Fingers crossed I think I’ve fixed it, thanks in the main to all the info gleaned off this site, so thanks to those who post.

It may help others to let you know what I did. On one post someone mentioned the large plastic contraption (sorry I forgot the name) hidden behind the left hand side panel of the machine. I decided to have a look at this and completely drain it. I also found a tiny bit of debris (plaster from the house renovation) in a float chamber within this contraption.

I also checked the reading on the thermostat, heating element and the inlet valve as well as that wiring loom that loops under the door. All the readings seemed satisfactory anf the wiring was pristine.

I also ran another test on the inlet valve taking it off the machine, connecting it to a water supply and applying 240 v. it operated perfectly. I then sucked on the small rubber tube and the valve closed and made a buzzing sound – which people have mentioned previously and which I’d heard on my own machine when it was malfunctioning!

My best guess is that there was some sort of air lock or vaccum caused by the big plastic device and it’s myriad water and air channels that stopped the fill cycle from operating properly. Once I’d cleaned and drained it the fault was solved. Or the inlet valve may have been stuck or is possibly faulty. Anyway I’ve just run a full cycle and all seems OK. Fingers crossed it stays that way! 😀
