It was the drain pump triac, but I managed to replace just the component and not the whole control board.

OK so what is it that tells the dishwasher when it is empty and the drain pump can be stopped ?

Thanks for your help – will check it out.
As a matter of interest, what is it that detects that the dishwasher is empty and that the pump should be swithed off – is it the diaphragm switch ?
What does the “feeler probe” do ?

Checked the polystyerene float switch with a multimeter and it is OK. There is no leak and I have had the bottom off and no obviousl signs of any problem. Any other ideas ?
