ParticipantRe: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!
😆 Just a quick note of thanks to all those who have assisted with my Whirlpool American style firidge Freezer problem!
My Fridge Freezer, which I bought in June 2003 started with the familiar intermittent clicking sound and the pulsing water last summer. About two weeks ago, the freezer (and since it’s linked – the fridge) stopped working altogether, which prompted a return to this site to see if there had been any further developments.
After reading the posts it looked as though getting the two boards replaced would be expensive, but I decided that this was my only option – however I was very pleasantly surprised with the final repair bill of just £84inc, which included a repair/mod to the rear board. I live in the York area, and used Allcool Transport Refrigeration Services, who I found through this site.
Thanks again for all your help!
Ps. I’d also like to add that I’ve been very dissapointed with Whirlpool’s lack of customer service as they’re aware of this problem, yet as the appliance was only just out of warranty when the problem began – they refused to even meet half of any repair bill. 🙁

Has anyone had any contact with Whirlpool re this, as it appears to be a relatively common fault?
If they acknowledge that there is a problem (which there clearly is), then surely they ought to at least meet half way with any repair costs as a gesture of goodwill.
I have tried emailing them in the ‘contact us’ section on their website, however there was a server error message and the email didn’t get through.
Just a thought.

Thanks Dufferuk – this should save a few people a lot of money!
For some reason, since I last posted, my fridge appears to have stopped making the irritating clicking noise and all seems well.
This could mean that either the faulty capacitor is holding it’s charge, allowing the compressor to function normally again or that the whole thing is about to explode. Hopefully it’s the former.
I did move the unit out to take a look at the board, so it could suggest I have a dry joint or even a sticking relay?
Anyway – really helpful, thanks again.

Hello all,
I’d really appreciate any help along the same lines:
My S20BRWW20 has started clicking for about 20-30 secs at a time, but seems to do it more in the evening for some reason. The clicking stops when either of the doors are opened, but resumes when they are closed. The water and ice dispensers both seem to work, although occasionally the water pulses and produces the same clicking sound.
I’m also thinking of replacing boards myself but does anyone know where to get them and how can I find out if I need both boards, as I bought it in June 2003?
I stupidly didn’t register it, nor did I take out the 8 year parts warranty. D’oh!
Thanks for any replies,
Wadey

ParticipantRe: whirlpool S20 B clicking
Sorry, but Ive got exactly the same problem with my American style fridge freezer (WHI-S20BRWW20).
I’ve booked an engineer at £72.50 just for the call out for next Wednesday, but I reckon I might cancel them and just buy a front and back board for £220 + vat, as suggested in the other Whirlpool post (Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!).
I’d really appreciate any advice on this as it’s only two and a half years old.
Thanks for any reply
