Well, last Thursday night I went ahead with the web purchase @ £347.99 Delivered; they promised me they had stock and indeed the new machine duly arrived on Saturday!
Took your advice and rang around a few local Engineers to take care of the installation, found a very professional sounding chap – not quite the cheapest Quote, but gave the best impression – and he’s been round and fitted it this afternoon for £65. You were also right about that – watching him, I would have struggled to do it so quickly and properly myself! Especially since it appears I have bought a Spanish-made version of the product, not a German one (wasn’t able to tell or choose). A note for others – the Spanish ones have a grey plastic internal floor, not shiny steel. It’s also got somewhat less adjustable fitting tolerances, due to different side seals, and that caused a bit of bother! It’s also not got the insulation that the Germans put on and is thus a bit noisier, but all in all we are happy. But the lesson is, when replacing an INTEGRATED appliance, if there was a way of requesting a German-made model, I would have got one, in hindsight. Thanks for all the Forum help, chaps.

After some on-line research I’ve now found the SGV53 E33 available from several Retailers @ way less than £400 delivered, with the cheapest only £329 delivered. Obviously I’d have to pay someone to install it, but even if that costs me, say, £70, it will be a considerable saving (IF the online retailer fulfils their side of the deal properly).
Alternatively, I’ve never actually attempted to install an integrated Dishwasher myself…but as we’re ‘only’ talking about a swap-over here, in your considered opinion could a layman quite easily do the job by simply following the Manual?
Trying to find a bit more out about this model, I did find this apparently independant comment: “Bosch SGV53E33GB built in fully integrated dishwasher. The overall performance is very good it obtained A grade in each category. There are only 5 programs to control the machine. The weight of machine is 69Kg that is too much.”
Puzzled by why the weight should matter (unless you have to haul one upstairs, which luckily I don’t) and have happily got by with “only” 5 Programmes on our old Neff.Walter of Woodham

Hello Don, thanks for your help – the good lady wife has been on the case and apparently the one in question is (definately) a Bosch SGV53 E33 GB, which is being offered by a local Indie for £499, incl. delivery, installation and removal of the knackered Neff. So a third variant seems to exist. Any idea what the difference in these model numbers is? 😕
Although – she’s been looking in another Dealership, where they have a Bosch Exxcel SMV 53 MOO (!) which she prefers, as it has a freely-positionable Cutlery Rack – if you understand what I mean! This is offered for £520 plus £70 installation. Would you consider this to be worth the extra for any other reasons – or not?
Also, I’ve seen in the Buying Guide on this Forum, a Miele G603SCVI was the most favoured integrated model, but I can’t seem to find any on-line. Is that old information?

OK well, so, we got a local Engineer out – he had it out and I’m told he basically agreed with what you said and also suspected a flooded motor or something. Anyhow, he didn’t charge for the call-out and advised us that we would be better off “just” buying a new machine rather than spending out £300-odd on repairs which might not even last. And he wasn’t trying to sell us one either.
So…have checked with Which? online, and a couple of other places, for likely models within our Budget. Obviously will explore this Forum more thoroughly too.
A shop we have trusted before has offered us what seems a good deal on a Bosch SGV53 fully-integrated, but as it’s not a current model I can’t really find out much about it. The make generally has a good name, I know, but any thoughts on this model? The one we are being offered is new and fully warrantied, not a reconditioned one…

Thanks for the swift respose Penguin, am getting fed up with manual diswashing already! Apologies for my ignorance… 😕
That E-Number in FULL then: (everything within the Box)
S5456 X2 GB/40
FD 8209 610016There’s also a small print long number: 10209 18040 7548360016
and a circle with 3 squares inside, above the inscription Typ S9IT1FHope that might narrow down the possibilities…? I don’t mind attempting a bit of simple unscrewing / part replacement, but would feel uneasy with anything much more complicated. Looking forward to further advice

Gentlemen, I salute you!
After taking all the advice on board – and particularly yours, Mr Kentish – I tightened up the door hinges and had a real good go at clearing out that Condensor. The good lady Wife had assured me she regularly washed it through, but doing the old side-to-side shake four times in a bowlfull of hot water really got loads of crud out of the “crinkly bits” (oo-err, mrs! 😯 ) And now…no steam, it’s working perfectly again! That technique is NOT mentioned in the Bosch Handbook!
So grateful thanks – you’ve saved me the £300 cost of a new machine!
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀And I don’t think I’ll be using that Engineer again. First Call Whitegoods!

Yeah, well, unfortunately I was not at home both times when this Engineer came out, but I ASSUME he checked the Condenser as thoroughly as he should. After all, if the thing isn’t condensing into it’s proper place – i.e. not filling the removable receptacle – then that’s a pretty obvious part to investigate. He’s a well established chap connected with a local shop, and was recommended to me by a couple of people whom I trust. Only charged £35…
But I did have another look at it yesterday myself and found rather a lot of fluff in the door filter – which I though he would have / should have cleaned out on his first visit…anyway, it’s all out now.
So, I asked the Mrs to test again with another wet load and once again we got plenty of steam leaking out and condensing onto the adjacent cupboard door. Much of this seemed to be emanating from the right hand side of the door seal, and the rest from the grille lower down. Checked the seal and it looked undamaged and properly seated. Can I check / replace the condenser myself, or is it a pro. job?By the way, the appliances’ number is: WTL 6102 GB/02 FD8210 201065

DOH!!!
Would you believe, I was sitting here looking at that before I posted and never noticed it. Thanks very much…now I just have to hire the core drill, lock away the kids, and I suppose, buy a suitable external terminal that won’t let in wind and small beasties.
I presume the hose supplied is 3 or 4 foot long and flexible (to allow for the machine to be pulled in and out) and the end just fits snugly within the short rigid pipe that one has to insert through the wall?
Apologies, but I’ve not had any experience of such matters…can anyone confirm how it’s done?
