    Working out how much laundry you are doing each week vs how long you want the machine to last is something only you can decide. I found out today it costs £3.50 to do a single wash in a launderette. That would equate to over £900 in one year alone. It makes the suggestion made by IADOM seem very sensible.

    Thanks to those who have completed the survey so far. Some intersting patterns are appearing. More responses are welcomed!

    Also would any repairers say that some makes of washing machines are not designed to be repaired? I’ve read that some bearings are sealed and cannot be replaced. Same with brushes. That would mean the entire machine is junked after a fixed number of cycles.

    Also what is the opinion on spin speed vs lifespan. I’ve seen some 900rpm hotpoints that look 25 years old but work as good as new.
