ParticipantRe: LG WD1255FHB Banging when spinning
Hi Washman, and friends.
Well the wife used the machine tonight after i’d “tensioned” the springs and put a buffer at the front of the tub.
Got a result……mega smoke from the drum. Spin had about 6 minutes left, made a banging noise, then went back to 10 minutes.
This went on for a while….spin up, spin down etc.
When the machine was opened….through the smoke appeared a huge great lump of door seal!!
The house is stinking of rubber, and the wife is hell bent on a new machine this weekend.
Any advice on what I should go for?….It needs to be silver.Once again, thanks for any help and advice given.

Sorry for being a tube…but it is a bit misleading
——————————————————————————–
all the ones ive seen have 3if you look at the tub, if the 2 springs arent on the same place on the tub(either side), then theres one missing!!!
3…right?

Hi Again …(sorry).
There are only 2 springs supporting the upper part of the tub, but I remember seeing 3 in an exploded diagram on some site. (left side as viewed from front). The 3rd spring did not have an item no’ of corresponding part no. so I didn’t really pay attention.
Can you confirm that it should have 3?
Still no luck tracking them down as parts.Regards,

Thanks for your reply,
It wasn’t just the one time it misbehaved, it has done it a few times now. The worst time was in the middle of a spin with a near full load, that was when it gouged the door seal a bit. Bits of seal in with the washing etc.
When I’m rocking the tub with the top off, it really is very easy to push it all the way forward so that the inner drum touches the door seal (and impedes it’s rotation). Are the top support springs liable to sag enough to allow this? (I’m not really a complete numpty, but it’s horses for courses)If so, are they available as spares (did a quick search no luck thus far).Much Obliged so far

Just checked again, both lower suspension legs are indeed attached. I really don’t know what else it could be.
I feel like stuffing a big piece of foam down the front of the tub to restrict the forward travel. lol
Any other tests that can be performed? I’m getting a bit desperate now.Regards,

Hello again,
Just stripped off the belt and made sure bearings were indeed OK, no problems there.
While the belt was off I checked for movement between outer and inner drum, There was nothing at all. I checked at all 3 paddle positions as suggested. Does this mean the spider support is OK?
I noticed when the top and back was off, that if the tub is pushed forward (which it is surprisingly easy to do) the the inner drum rubs on the door seal.
Going back to a point I asked previously, is the machine not supposed to be able to detect imbalance and slow the drum accordingly?Regards,

Thanks for the reply.
I’ve tried turning the drum and checking for roughness and rumbling, it feels OK. There doesn’t appear to be any movement by lifting it either.
On your second point, is the support you are talking about located between the inner and outer drums?
If this is the case, is it a serviceable item? How difficult would a repair like that be?Regards,

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint FFM90A Freezer Ice Build Up
Hi Dave,
The problem with the temp display is now sorted, it was apparently a “defrosted” warning although not in the documentation. I pressed the leftmost control button and it cancelled it, the freezer is now at the correct temperature.
I think however, that the ice build up problem will continue as the water really has nowhere else to go.
I may pull it out to see if anything else is visible from the back.Regards,

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint FFM90A Freezer Ice Build Up
Hi all,
I decided to have a look for this drain the Hotpoint peeps were talking about, so I swatched off the freezer and removed all the drawers.
I removed what seemed to be a false back in the freezer compartment, and this exposed the cooling/heating elements and also the sensors fan and drain hole.
The cooling assembly had hardly any ice on it, but the drain was blocked by an ice plug. I removed the plug and found that the capacity of the hole was minimal, prolly about a couple of tablespoonfuls.
Anyway, I drain the hole and refitted the panel. I then turned the freezer on and waited for the temperature display to settle in a few hours. When I went back to it, it was alarming and showing a temperature in the freezer of 6c. I opened the freezer door, and as far as I can tell, it’s much colder than that.
Any ideas what’s happened here? As far as I’m aware, I haven’t disturbed anything, and nothing was intentionally moved.
I took a few snaps of the internal gubbins if anyone can help me identify the components.
Any help greatly appreciated.Regards,

Hi,
Just to follow up on this fix, I have managed to mix up these two components. Please can anyone tell me the position they should be in?
I can’t believe I didn’t note this, when I removed them I assumed that they were a pair. I now realise that they are different specifications. Any help greaty appreciated.Regards,
