ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WM73 bearing replacment
Thanks for all your support, I have had the machine apart and replaced the bearings, the inner one had completly disintergrated. So much so that once the repament had been installed it was no longer a tight fit.
Put the whole machine back together and run it on a test wash but it still seemed to rubblem and knock on a spin so i guess it’s time for a replacement.
Looking at the hotpoint wt960.
Once again thanks for the support.

Thats ok then, i’ll assigned Thursday for this task, i’ll see how i get on. Thanks for all the responces. If the outer drum is broke then i have nothing to lose.

iadom wrote:If the dust is very black rather than a rusty colour then you may have a more serious problem. The alloy casting that the bearings fit into can on rare occasions come loose within the nylon drum. This leads to the black dust, the bearings usually cause a rusty stain on the floor/chassis. For very good legal and safety reasons we cannot go into blow by blow details of a bearing change, safe to say you will need a degree of mechanical competance and of course to do the job ‘correctly’ the correct tools to refit the bearings without damaging them. you should also replace the drum seal, if you don’t it will almost certainly leak.
Ah, so if it isn’t the bearings that have gone what other parts may i need. i guess i’ll find out when i get the drum out.
I wasn’t expecting a blow by blow account, but any pointers to easy extraction of the drum for example.
Thanks for your reponce.
