    Outcome:
Original diagnosis was correct. Live from switch broken at the door hinge. Probably because it left the factory with too much tension on it and finally snapped. Job sorted 😀

    Update:
Checked the filter and that is clear. When I put pressure on the door I can hear the microswitch click so that sounds OK. Ordered a new one anyway as the terminals outside the connectors look a little blued. Timer does not move and nothing happens if it is moved manually. No live at any of the pumps. So I am concluding no power from the main switch to the timer and will be checking that. Please feel free to tell me where I am going wrong 🙂

Update: New element arrived safely and had first chance to fit it today. The old element was secured in place by a rubber fitting – much like a rubber grommet – and was a real pain to remove. When it came to fitting the new one, I couldnt get the flange to seat flat against the back of the drum. The tip of the element was clearly touching the drum inside. The old element may be longer but the angles are the same. I can only conclude that I bent the opening where the element fits when I took the old one out. I wasnt too happy with the way the drum bounced about on fast spin anyway so have ordered a new machine. Well it was worth and shot. Many thanks to the board and Penguin45 in particular

You need to check the water level control system, especially the airbell in the bottom hose for blockages.

    Replacement element is HERE.

Many thanks for the help. There is no circuit across the heater and I’ve ordered one from the link you provided. I couldnt really see how you could reset the cut-out once it tripped and I appreciate the confirmation its a one time only part. I dont have a manual for the machine so will do a search to find out what the airbell looks like and check the hoses while I’m waiting for the part to arrive. The washer has hot and cold feeds, but both are linked up to cold water. I’m wondering if my assumption that no power across the heater is stopping the timer is correct – if I filled using hot water then the heater wouldnt need to be powered up but the cycle would continue. This may be a Newb trying to run before he can walk but I’d be interested to know 🙂
