A possible fire hazard has prompted GE to recall about 222,000 top loading washing machines in the USA.
The recall involves three models of GE profile high-efficiency top loading clothes washers sold in gold, grey, and white.
The top loading washing machines were sold at Best Buy, Lowe’s Sears, the Home Depot, and other stores across the United States from June 2003 through October 2011.
GE received 71 reports of internal washing components burning or catching fire.
Consumers should stop using the machine, unplug it, and contact GE appliances for a free repair.
GE appliances can be reached toll free at (877)830-9732 Monday through Friday.
For the time being we do not know what the cause of the fire risk is or, it’s not clear presently at least but given the advice GE is issuing it looks to be fairly serious.
