Although this doesn’t affect us here in the UK, it’s quite intersting in a weird way as GE which is owned by Haier, is moving production from China to the USA to avoid tariffs. 

It isn’t too often that we see new products that are actually interesting so it’s nice to see something new every now and then and this is, but it ain’t cheap!

A possible fire hazard has prompted GE to recall about 222,000 top loading washing machines in the USA.

For those of you that may not know about it, Amazon have this device called an Echo that is essentially a speaker with a bunch of microphones in it that you can issue commands to then in turn Amazon’s digital assistant known as Alexa does your bidding.

In a hark back to the days of Bauknecht mini-kitchens and Candy Trios GE is betting that smaller urban homes will open up a niche market for it’s new micro kitchen concept.

Bloomberg reports that first round bids for General Electrics home-appliances business are due next week, according to people familiar with the matter, as the industrial giant seeks a speedy exit following its aborted deal with Electrolux.

Electrolux said today its deal to buy General Electric’s appliance business had fallen through after GE terminated the $3.3 billion agreement.

GE have announced an investment of $100-plus million in a new topload washer design and expanded manufacturing capability at its laundry plant in Louisville. 

Electrolux’s proposed $3.3bn acquisition of General Electric’s appliance business could become the latest deal to come undone after the US Department of Justice sued to block the deal.

Just to add to Whirlpool’s woes after the recent Embraco compressor debacle, General Electric (GE) has pitched in according to a report in Bloomberg and others with a complaint filed in federal court in Louisville, Kentucky seeking damages from Whirlpool.
