The Star reports that Indesit delivery drivers in South Yorkshire have voted to take strike action in a national pay dispute.
Employees for Indesit in Barnsley are among those who are supporting industrial action against the company, which has 12 bases around the country. The status of the other sites is not currently known but we suspect that similar action may be in play.
The potential strike could affect thousands of deliveries of white goods such as fridge freezers and cookers.
The workers are members of Unite union, that will be deciding what form the strike action may take.
Drivers, attendants and warehouse staff voted by 93% for strike action and 97% for industrial action short of a strike, after what the union describes as ‘years of below-inflation pay awards’.
Unite regional officer Mark Plumb said: “We urge the management to get around the table to negotiate a fair and equitable settlement for the drivers and warehouse staff. As the drivers deliver more than 16,000 items of ‘white goods’ each week, any industrial action will severely disrupt deliveries for Indesit customers.”
