Fisher & Paykel say they have clocked up another world first ““ a large capacity top-loading dryer ““ the Intuitive Dryer (model DEIX1).

The new dryer was released recently to partner the company’s newly-styled Intuitive Eco top-loading washing machine. The matching Intuitive washer and dryer combo represents a new era in Australian laundry design, the company claims. Until now, a top-loading dryer that accepted the entire wash load from a large capacity washing machine was just a concept.

According to Tony Sweeney, Fisher & Paykel’s national marketing manager, around 80 per cent of Australian households own a top-loading washing machine. Therefore, he says, it makes perfect sense to release a top-loading dryer.

“Transferring heavy damp clothes from a top loading washer into a front loading dryer just didn’t make sense to us, and with the capacity of washing machines increasing in size over the years, we felt it was necessary to offer a dryer which was able to dry a full 8kg load in one hit,” he says.

In line with its partner, the Intuitive Eco Washing Machine, it has a series of “˜lifecycles’ pre-programmed into its operating system, including an “˜allergy’ cycle of extended heat for removing allergens and germs, a “˜pillow’ cycle designed to safely dry foam pillows and soft toys, as well as a specific cycle for doonas, jeans, blankets and lingerie.

A sophisticated sensor in the dryer’s drum detects the moisture levels of the clothing throughout the drying process, allowing the machine to determine an adequate drying time, preventing over-drying of clothing and conserving energy. An innovative lint collecting system scrapes lint into a Lint Bucket, only needing to be emptied every 10 to 20 loads, while the high airflow fan and reverse tumbling produces tangle free fast drying.

“Clothes dryers are no longer seen as a back up to be used in inclement weather,” Sweeney says. “Time poor Australians are increasingly using a dryer to dry their laundry, having less time to dedicate to domestic chores.”

The Intuitive Eco Washing Machine, Australia’s most energy efficient washer, has undergone some cosmetic changes in order to match its new partner, the Intuitive Dryer. Available in two sizes, 7kg and 8kg, it is rated AAAA making it extremely efficient in water usage.
