Every year Electrolux run their design awards in a search fro new ideas and directions on appliance design and this year’s candidates, like most, are somewhat off the wall. The latest to be revealed is a modular concept fridge design known as nFridge.
From what we can see it looks to be a lot of little clear fridges stacked to make, well, a stack of little clear fridges.
As you can see here it’s pretty much just that:
There are some good things is good about this design approach as, if something gets spilt it’s only spilt in one section. Similarly, something that smells a bit strong, cheese or curry leftovers for example, won’t contaminate other foods so it’s not a total dead duck. Whether people would buy it however is a whole other ball game.
The best point though is that you can see how much beer is left at a glance.
I’m afraid though that Electrolux have been beaten with the idea of perspex for appliances however. At a recent Japanese appliance show one manufacturer had a true perspex fridge.
We don’t know much about it but, I should imagine that keeping it clean will be a bit of a chore. In fact the thought of all the dust on the rear after a while in operation would just send shivers down your spine.
Not content with this however there was also a perspex washing machine as well.
Complete with funky blue LED’s as well as current standards seem to dictate. Not too sure how that one will look after a few months worth of carbon dust inside it either.
At least it’s not quite as ugly as that Samsung Hauzen thing to be fair.
First we had the Dyson where we could be entertained for hours watching our dirt spinning around in a perspex tub, now we have all this. Somehow I can’t see it catching on though.
