Pune, February 20: AS befitted the occasion, the rustle of silk dominated the crisp brushing of suits at the first-ever Financial Express Electrolux Awards for Women in Business held on Thursday evening at the Oberoi Hotel in Mumbai. Instituted to recognise the contribution of women, the event saw an impressive turnout, with achievers from every sphere of the corporate world.
The awards were presented by Union Finance Minister Jaswant Singh, who turned up in a white, trademark safari suit. Also present, and in buoyant mood, were Reliance vice-chairman and MD Anil Ambani along with wife Tina, Hindustan Lever chairman MS Banga, M&M vice-chairman and MD Anand Mahindra with wife Anuradha, HSBC India head Niall Booker, RBI governor YV Reddy and deputy governors KJ Udeshi and Rakesh Mohan, among others.
The ball was set rolling with the finance minister’s unveiling of a presentation””India Accelerating, stressing on the country’s advances. Singh also commended the strides taken by women in business, while presenting the awards to the winners.
The post-function get-together witnessed the likes of other women achievers such as Naina Lal Kidwai, vice-chairperson and MD, HSBC Securities, ICICI Bank’s joint MD Lalita Gupte and executive director Chanda Kochhar and Shaw Wallace & Co director Komal Wazir exchanging boardroom stories.
Goes without saying that, this time the men folk were the ones who paid keen attention.
