In a letter sent to service agent son the 9th June 2005 LEC has announced that production at its Bognor Regis site will cease by the end of August 2005. This is of course in response to the sale of LEC to Glen Dimplex earlier this year and the subsequent review of the business.

The letter also states that, whilst the production at Bognor Regis will cease, the company will continue to market domestic refrigeration products. Obviously this would mean that LEC will be produced elsewhere and will become just another branded product in the market and not a true manufacturer.

Stocks are being built up to support the changes that are to take place.

The Technical Products division will be unaffected by these changes and manufacturing of those products will remain at Bognor Regis. Current service arrangements are also unaffected by the change and service calls will be handled as they currently are.

LEC has also now become a division of GDHA (Glen Dimplex Home Appliances Ltd) with a new VAT and company registration numbers.

It is sad to see yet another one of the few UK domestic appliance manufacturers cease production in the UK.
