Whirlpool and Maytag got the go-ahead from the Competition Bureau of Canada to move ahead with their proposed merger.
The bureau concluded that it has no grounds to challenge the merger under Canada’s Competition Act, as the deal should not lessen or prevent competition in the Canadian marketplace.
The major appliance giants are still waiting for U.S. regulatory clearance. In February, Whirlpool and Maytag agreed with the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice to delay the closing of the transaction until March 30, without the division’s concurrence.
