Daewoo have announced that it has started selling its “sloped drum” washing machine in major countries, like Saudi Arabia, China and Russia and it is planning to expand its sales to 20 countries around the world, including Central and South America, Asia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Daewoo are calling it the Klasse drum washer, which was released at the end of March.
The new washing machine has the drum tilted by 10 degrees and located 11.5 centimetres higher compared to existing products.
Daewoo’s press release say that such an ergonomic design, the product minimises users’ back and knee fatigue when they bend down putting in and taking out of laundry.
Uhh… okay then.

Since it is 63 cementers wide, the Klasse washing machine is probably not likely to be sold in the UK or Europe where the standard is 60cm wide or less.
With an automatic liquid detergent and softener dispenser on the top of the machine, users can wash a laundry load of up to 5 kg 20 times, on average, once they fill the dispenser with detergents.
Daewoo also said that it has been targeting the low and middle priced market with its existing economical products, is now planning to target the premium washing machine market in earnest with the inclined front-load washing machine this time after global platform top-load washing machine released last year.
Of course tilted drums are nothing new, they’ve been about for years now but we suppose the marketing guys needed a job so they’ve tried to spin it (no pun intended) to look like innovation. It isn’t.
That top control panel though is a spillage damage incident waiting to happen is you ask us. Wet laundry sat up there, water ingress and bang.
