Whirlpool Corp. is recalling 24,500 free-standing ranges, double ovens, and oven-microwave combinations. All of the appliances use faulty wiring, which can overheat, melt through the insulation and cause a short circuit. They may pose a shock hazard to consumers if the appliance is not properly grounded.
The recall involves Whirlpool and KitchenAid brand free-standing ranges, double ovens, and oven-microwave combination products with the following model and serial numbers:
Whirlpool oven-microwave combination GSC XR15-XR25; Whirlpool double wall ovens RBD XR15-XR25; KitchenAid oven-microwave combination KEHC XR15-XR25 and KEMC; and KitchenAid electric free standing ranges KERA2 RR15-RR25 and KERI2.
The model and serial numbers are located on a label inside the door of the units.
Department, mass merchandise and appliance stores, as well as home builders, sold the recalled units from April through July. The Whirlpool Oven-Micro Combo sold for between $2,200 and $2,720, the Whirlpool Double Wall Oven for between $930 and $1,350, the KitchenAid Oven-Micro Combo for between $2,300 and $3,740 and the KitchenAid Free Standing Range for between $850 and $1,230.
Consumers should immediately stop using the product, unplug it by shutting off the fuse or circuit breaker, and contact Whirlpool for a free repair. Call Whirlpool toll-free at 1-866-770-6751 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET on Saturday to schedule the free repair.

Just looking at the prices of these products and even allowing for the exchange rate, they”re damned expensive! OK, they”re seemingly dangerous, but there must be a decent margin there, if not only to fund the product recall!
