Inventor James Dyson paid himself £31.5m last year, putting him amongst Britains highest earners.
The Dyson company, which he owns, made record profits of £103m after a surge in exports to Japan, where its DC12 vacuum cleaner leads the market.
Dyson points out that it invested £42m in research and development last year and expects to spend £56m in 2006. James Dyson’s pay packet was up 44% on the previous year.
