Employees at Rangemaster in Leamington face an uncertain Christmas after it was announced 80 jobs will go.
The management of the firm have outlined 80 redundancies at the Clarence Street factory which come after the group announced a 15 per cent reduction in orders in October.
Management are currently in a 30-day consulation with unions but it is expected around 65 shopfloor workers and 15 other staff are set to go.
Rangemaster, formerly Flavel, was first established in Leamington in 1803. It manufactures cookers and is now part of a group that includes brands such as Rayburn and Marvel.
Company Secretary, Pam Sissons, confirmed the company was in consultation with the unions about the redundancies. She said: “We announced in October that our order intake was down 15 per cent, the redundancies are a result of that and the general market downturn.
“We began a 30-day consultation with the unions on December 5, if they come back with anything we will consider that.”
But she said speculation that work would be moved to Rangemaster’s other factory in Long Eaton, Nottingham, was unfounded and the same practice would continue.
Marketing director Richard Eagleton said the company had done everything to limit the losses and stressed the decision had been a difficult one.
