Its been reported that Samsung may build a U.S. plant for its home appliances business, a person familiar with the matter said, the latest company to respond to criticism about imports from new President Donald Trump.
Specifics such as the amount Samsung might invest and where the new manufacturing facility could be located have yet to be decided, said the person, declining to be identified due to lack of authorisation to speak publicly on the matter.
The new American administration has threatened an import tax while Mr Trump has attacked some of the world’s biggest companies for manufacturing abroad for American consumers.

The asked by CNBC about it all Samsung declined to comment on whether it has any specific plans to add production facilities in the USA but said it has already made significant investments in the country, including the $17 billion the firm has spent to date for its Austin, Texas, chip plant.
“We continue to evaluate new investment needs in the U.S. that can help us best serve our customers,” it said in an email.
Although we can’t think that Samsung will be overly keen to do much of anything given the pressure it’s under presently what with phones and washing machines blowing up all over the place and the whole corruption thing in Korea. We think Samsung has other problems to deal with that are a bit more pressing than this.
