Three Spanish firms, Coinalde, Tajo and Maier, are currently holding talks with Wrocław City Council with regard to opening new production facilities there.
All three firms work in close association with white goods producers (in addition to other spheres, with two of the firms also making plastic car components and cables). Thus their interest in the Silesian city has been linked to the 1999 takeover of local white goods producer Wrozamet by Fagor, another Spanish firm, and has no doubt also been further aroused by Whirlpool’s recent decision to invest in there.
While Coinalde has already decided to start production in Wrocław, and in so doing create 50 new jobs, Tajo and Maier are still undecided as to whether they will opt for this country or sites in Slovakia.
Consequently, Hyundai’s recent decision to invest in the latter may yet work against this city.
