Fagor, the Spanish industrial kitchen giant, is preparing plans to construct its second 10-million-euro plant in Gebze, near Istanbul, in early January.

This is part of a strategy to expand their market across Russia, Central Asia, Arabic countries and Africa.

“Countries with good potential for feasible investment would put Russia, along with Turkey, on top of the list. Fagor chose Turkey for its strategic location,” said Mario Lopez who heads the European export department at Fagor.

Companies with an interest in getting a share of the global market do not have the luxury of leaving out Turkey, said Lopez.

Guclu Kaplangi, head manager of Fagor in Turkey, said Fagor’s first entry into the Turkish market came in 1999 with five dealers across the country and five authorized service providers.

“Fagor now has 79 staff members, 60 dealers and 70 authorized service providers across the country. Four thousand refrigerators sold this year alone make Fagor Turkey shine.”

“The market has rapidly increased to €300-350 million euros compared to what it was like three years ago. With Turkey working toward its EU targets, the market is estimated to reach €700-800 million by the year 2015.

“Fargo’s production capacity is currently confined to an area totaling 6,000 square meters. But with the new plans to construct further plants, this will increase to 11,800 square meters. There are plans to manufacture industrial refrigerators and dish washing machines. Production capacity will double with 200 new staff.”

Fagor Turkey is providing service to a population of 280 million across 14 countries.

Fargo’s branch in Turkey provides service and products to countries like Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Syria, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Cyprus, Greece and Romania.

Fargo’s turnover target for 2007 in Turkey is €20 million, said Kaplangi, and added that Sudan, Ethiopia, Egypt and Yemen will be supplied from Fargo Turkey.
