Another of those “what the actual…” moments has rolled around in the appliance industry, as Miele (bless them) introduces refrigeration products with voice-controlled doors. Just when you thought humans couldn’t get more lazy!

Let’s start by pointing out that Miele does not make its own refrigeration. It’s all made for them (so far as we know) by Liebherr, so these are Liebherr units rebadged as Miele. Honestly, unless you wantt the door with  to open and shuAlexa or Google Assistant (which we doubt many people will want), save yourself a pile of cash and just buy the Liebherr-branded units. Plus parts are a lot cheaper when you eventually need them but, we digress.

This, in our view utterly pointless feature, is available on two models in Miele’s K7000 range.

The K 7797 C Built-in fridge and K 31222 Ui-1 – LS as well as the FNS 7794 D built-in freezer that feature this. New new ActiveDoor technology, it can also open automatically by knocking twice on the door and the pressure sensor, opening angle and default door closure can also be customised to suit the user’s needs.

But the big question for us is, why?

And, who wants this? Maybe useful for disabled or some older people but other than that, we can’t think of a single use case where this makes any sense.
