We know that many people talk to modern washing machines but what they have to say to them normally involves a raised voice and some unpleasant language in many cases but would people actually want a Siri like function to tell their washing machine what to do?

LG seems to think that people would. Quite why we can’t work out and, like Siri and other voice control apps will probably be forgotten after the first couple of uses.
So why people would pay for it is beyond us but, no doubt some people will get suckered into it.
Of course you don’t actually talk to the washing machine, you need to fire up the LG app running on your smartphone then talk to your phone which will in turn the tell the washing machine what to do. Wouldn’t it be faster just to press the button on the washer?
So if you happen to own an LG Tromm washing machine and you live in South Korea then you can get this “feature” and there is no word of when or even if this will be available outside of LG’s home territory.
The app will at first recognize about 40 commands, which can be spoken in naturally-sounding language, for example you can simply ask “What are you doing?” and your washing machine will give you its current status.
Now if LG could come up with a way that the washing machine can made more useful by adding features like this we would perhaps care a bit more but, as it stands, we would have to say that this is next to useless and certainly not worth paying extra for.
