Whirlpool Dreamspace Washing Machine Fault Codes

These fault codes are written for washing machine repairers and not for the general public by Whirlpool and they assume a certain level of competence on the part of the user in diagnostic routines. We have added some notes to try to assist you in determining the nature of the fault you have but, you will still need to investigate each failure on its own merits. For more help and advice on fault finding on a washing machine please refer to our washing machine fault finding guide from this link before you begin.

If you struggle or cannot find the appropriate fault code that you need for your Whirlpool machine please ask in the forums and the gusy there will do what they can to help and locate the meaning of the fault code you need

  Whirlpool Washing Machine Spare Parts

We have purposely not listed any Whirlpool washing machine spares in this article as Whirlpool spares can be very expensive and especially so for the Dreamspace range of washing machines. Please ensure that you order the correct spare part by contacting us with the 12NC code from the washing machine (you will find this on the rating plate) to make sure you ge tthe correct part.

Please, don’t guess or assume as spares can be altered on a production run with the same model number having several different alternative components used.

Washing machine has failed to fill with water

No water detected entering machine or pressure switch activation not detected. If after 30 seconds the control does not detect water entering machine and then valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed.

If the control has turned the water valves on and after 8 minutes the flow meter has detected 10.5 gallons of water passing through it, but has not detected the pressure switch activation then the water valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed.

Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the error display.

  • If there is water in the washing machine:
    • Make sure that both valves at the water tap or taps are turned on all the way
    • Check for plugged or kinked inlet hoses or plugged screens in the inlet valves
    • Verify inlet valve operation
  • If there is water in the washing machine:
    • Verify Drain pump operation
    • Pressure Switch Hose is in good condition and properly connected to Tub and Pressure switch

Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display.

  • Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked
  • Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
  • Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects
  • If the above does not correct the problem replace the pump

After 4 minutes the “Sud” error will be displayed, then 4 minutes later the F02 error code will be displayed.

F05

Water temperature sensor error

If during the water heating step in the wash cycle, the water temperature sensor (NTC) value is out of range, or the heating element circuit has failed, the F05 error code will be displayed.

  • Check the Water Temperature Sensor, Heating Element and Element Relay
  • Check connections to the Sensor, Heating Element and Relay

F06

Motor tachometer error

The control is unable to properly detect motor speed and the machine will shut down. If a failure occurs during high-speed spin the door will be unlocked after 3 minutes.

  • Check wire harness connections between the Drive Motor/Tachometer
  • Check Motor Control Unit (MCU), and between the MCU and the Central Control Unit (CCU)
  • Check the Drive Motor
  • Check the MCU
  • Check the Wire Harness

F07

Motor control unit (MCU) error

The Central Control Unit has detected a short in the motor control unit. If a failure occurs during high-speed spin the door will be unlocked after 3 minutes.

  • Check wire harness connections between the Drive Motor and the Motor Control Unit (MCU)
  • Check wiring between the MCU and the Central Control Unit (CCU)
  • Check the MCU

  • Check the Wire Harness

F09

Washing machine has overfilled with water

If the Overflow contact on the pressure switch is Closed for more than 60 seconds an Overflow condition will occur. In an Overflow condition, the Door will remain locked, and the Drain Pump will run constantly, even if PAUSE/CANCEL is pressed twice and the Display is cleared. Unplug the washing machine to service.

  • Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked
  • Check Wire Harness connections to the Drain Pump, Pressure Switch, and Central Control Unit (CCU)
  • Check / Clean Drain Pump Filter of foreign objects
  • Check for Drain Pump Failure
  • Check the Inlet Valve for proper shut off
  • Check the Pressure switch for proper operation

F10

Washing machine motor control unit (MCU) overheated

Motor Control Unit (MCU) heat sink thermal trip If the thermal protector on the MCU heat sink gets too hot, it will open the thermal protector on the heat sink which will stop motor functions and an F10 will be displayed.

  • Check for Proper Installation
  • Ensure the washing machine is not located near a source of heat and has proper ventilation.

  • Check Dispenser Motor

F14

EEPROM error

The Central Control Unit (CCU) receives it’s data from an EEPROM onboard the CCU. If there is an error reading this data it will cause this error.

  • A power glitch may cause this error
  • Try unplugging the Unit for two minutes to see if that fixes the error
  • Check CCU

F15

Motor control unit error

If the MCU detects multiple resets or errors during a wash cycle it will go into this error mode.

  • Check Wire Harness connections to the MCU, the motor, and Central Control Unit (CCU)
  • Check Drive belt
  • Check MCU
  • Check Motor
  • Check Wire Harness

Sud

Suds lock detected – Washing machine overdosed

The motor control unit senses a suds lock condition by analyzing the current draw on the drive motor. If “Sud” is displayed a potential suds lock is detected. This may signify a bad pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent, or excessive suds.

  • Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked
  • Check Wire Harness connections to the Drain Pump, Pressure Switch, and Central Control Unit (CCU)
  • Check / Clean Drain Pump Filter of foreign objects

More Whirlpool Washing Machine Help, Advice And Guidance

Should you need more help and guidance please use the links from this article as most of them will help you to understand your Whirlpool washing machine a lot better and probably very much help you in diagnosing the fault you have. Of course there are many other articles on the site that will also help you do this.

In addition you can post in our washing machine forum after registering but please do pay heed to the information below before doing so and read the guides, they are there to help you.

You must understand certain things before you begin or attempt any repairs on your own and we want to make these points very, very clear to anyone that decides to investigate one of these or any other washing machines:

  • We are not responsible for your safety, you are and by using this guide you accept that and accept that any damage that you may cause and work undertaken is entirely at your own risk.
  • We will advise the common causes of the fault codes but we cannot guarantee that any parts or work recommended will resolve the issue. It is entirely your responsibility to diagnose your particular problem and resolve it.
  • We are not responsible for you buying spares that do not resolve the problem, this is down to your own diagnosis not ours.
  • No warranty is inferred, implied or given.

You also have to take into account that fault or error codes are not a “magic bullet”, they will not tell you what the problem is, they will only offer you an indication of where the problem lies and they are no substitute for good old fashioned diagnostic skills. You can find out more about what washing machine fault codes actually tell you in this article. So please be well aware that, even with this new found knowledge you will still have to actually be capable of investigating and diagnosing the problem and this means adhering to basic appliance safety for working on them.

Please do note that manufacturers can and do change fault codes without notice and we cannot guarantee that these error codes will apply to your particular model as all codes apply to a wide range of appliances and not normally any one specific model. To determine if these fault codes do apply to your particular Whirlpool washing machine model please post a request to confirm this in the washing machine forum.
