The Whirlpool Corporation says it’s bringing back a refrigerator line to its southern Indiana plant.
The company says more than 100-thousand 22-inch “Bottom Mount” refrigerators — those with the freezer on the bottom — will be made at the Evansville plant starting in 2006.
For the last several years, the product has been purchased from another manufacturer instead of being made at the Evansville plant.
Paul Coburn is the company’s division vice president. He says this is the best news he’s had in years.
The number of engineers at the plant could be increased, but the number of hourly positions at the plant is not expected to rise.
