Appearance
Small black spots that can be grouped in a larger area, possibly with shades of red and green.
Also please see our article on smelly washing machines as we have seen this sort of staining caused by bacteria build up in washing machines.
This problem is not being caused by any fault on your washing machine and no service or repair will resolve this issue.
Even if the machine does have bacteria that is causing this we would suggest treatment with Affresh or a repeated maintenance wash to try to clear it, a service engineer is not required and will be unable to do any more than this.
Please see below for ways in which this problem can be easily avoided.
Treatment
Soak in non-chlorine bleach (eg peroxide) for 2 hours making sure it is not allowed to dry on the fabric. Then wash as normal following the fabric care label. Successful treatment is not guaranteed, especially if the fibres in the fabric have started to break down.
Cause & Prevention
Cause
The garment has been left damp for a period of time
Prevention
Wash dirty wet garments as soon as possible rather than leaving them damp.
Prevention
Dry washed laundry immediately after washing.
