ParticipantMy wonderful dryer suddenly making odd noise, and drum not rotating. Taken back off and disc there spins OK so suspect drive belt has gone. Grateful for any ideas how to access the fan belt drive!

Do you have a proper model number, 75/400 is not one. Look on the back for a stick on white label. Number will begin with 37****.
You can easily check if the belt has gone by removing the top, after taking out the mains plug of course.

…,unless it is the little 75 then access to the belt is a tad tricky.

Thankyou guys — on mine there is no ‘top’. The casing is continuous. On the back it has serial 182308, model 75/400. From the instruction book it is a TD400. Is there access from the back — ie behind the spinning disc?

No! The whole outer cabinet has to be unscrewed then lifted up and clear. Screws fix it at the back, the side and at the front (with the door open). 😀

Got it loose at the back, but there are NO screws at the side, and at the front the screws there seem to be securing a separate panel. Shall I remove the front ones anyway?

OK brilliant! Got the top off, and found broken belt.
Presumably, if I can get a new one it just fits round the outside of the drum, and into the flanged pulley wheel? Any idea where I get the belt?

Can you see any numbers on the belt or have they all rubbed off. That model is so old it doesn’t feature on the official parts software.

The belt that fits the 1983 models onwards is a C00208989, or a 1740876.
A good chance it would fit but any number/letter you can find with a J in it will help.
If it has 1600J3 on it then the number above is correct.

Thankyou ladom. The belt is 192 cm long and 7mm wide. It has the number 611739 on it, as well as “industrial products”, Wigan England. Regards F

Sounds like a 1910J3 belt (pattern : POL03) or genuine C00209007

Now as Martin said comes the tricky bit. How do you detach the flanged pulley wheel in order to get the belt round it? Presumably do that first then stretch the belt around the drum?

Not at all….(Blimey you got the belt quick by the way are you sure it’s the right one?) ……the belt simply eased between the front drum support and onto the drum. Secure drum back onto front support then thread belt around motor pulley and jockey pulley…..simples!
