KITCHEN equipment group Aga Foodservice, maker of the legendary cooker favoured by Naked Chef Jamie Oliver, announced the acquisition of a US-based fridge maker.
The group said the $21m (£13.3m) deal to buy Northland-Marvel would allow it to sell both cookers and refrigerators in North America.
Aga already has a substantial presence in the US with home furnishings chain Domain and other outlets selling its cookers.
Northland-Marvel’s primary production facility is in Richmond, Indiana, and it produces under-counter and free-standing refrigerators. In the last financial year its turnover was $40m and profit before tax was $3m.
Last week Aga blamed weaker US trading for a 6% drop in half-year profits.
