Amica, the largest domestic white goods producer, is contemplating constructing a new production site in Russia within the next two years.
“Russia has 150 million customers and one Merloni white goods plant. This will change,” said Jacek Rutkowski, Amica’s president and main shareholder. The final decision concerning the type of product to be manufactured at the new factory, should it get the go-ahead, will be made sometime before the end of the year. “There should be no problem with financing.
If it is a cooker plant worth zł.20-30 million, then we will construct it on our own. If it is some other larger type of facility, then we will support ourselves with a loan. We intend to pay long-term debts by 2006,” Rutkowski revealed.
Last year, the firm managed to lower material costs by zł.20 million and post a gross profit of 6% on its annual revenues. (Puls Biznesu, pp. 1, 4) M.M.
