LG Electronics, the nation’s largest home appliance maker, announced Thursday that they would designate dishwashers as a “˜new growth engine product’ along with the air purifiers and would put much focus on making the sector one of LG’s main strategic businesses.
With the move, LG plans to secure 60 percent of the domestic dishwasher market this year, which is expected to grow about 200,000 units, making the item its premium product line along with its hit “Tromm” washing machine. Last year, LG clinched the largest share in the domestic washing machine market.
LG Electronics vice president Kim Yong-su said the market for dishwashers has high growth potential as the penetration rate of the products in the domestic market is less than 10 percent.” And with the growing interest in the so-called “Well Being” trend, the dishwasher is placing itself as a much-have item along with the air purifier.
