In December of last year, Bosch announced the closure of its plant in Esquíroz, Navarra in Spain which makes refrigeration and compact dishwashers. The facility is due to close this year and costs are to blame with production set to move to Poland or Turkey.
But this, along with other manufacturing facilities moving outside the EU has raised some alarms with MEPs.
In this instance, it is liable to cause the loss of around 650 jobs in the region.
“The situation is really very worrying. This was a company that had proved to be sustainable, a company that had a product that provided services to the rest of Europe and also to Spain, because 80% of the products that came out of this company were then marketed in Spain,” Spanish MEP Estrella Galán said. “And now the company has decided to close because of relocation,”
It would seem that this and production by the likes of Audi, Volkswagen and others is raising concerns about manufacturing abandoning the EU.
