We know that most people will be aware of the ongoing situation surrounding the outbreak of this virus across China and beyond as it’s been hitting the headlines but, it may affect us all in more way than has been widely reported.
The problem is a lot of appliance parts, and even components and raw materials used in building appliances comms from China. And, that’s a problem.
Already the tech press has been picking up that many products are going to be constrained in coming months, even when production gets back to normal there may well be an ongoing effect. The trouble is that nobody really knows or is quite sure beyond the here and now.
We also know now that there are some pretty severe restrictions in Italy and, guess where a lot of appliances and parts come from… yup, Italy. So, we are expecting delays at some stage but it will depend very much on where the items or materials for them are sourced, where they go and where they’ve got to get too. It’s complicated, much more so than many people might imagine as a delay on any part of the supply chain drags the whole thing to a halt.
Equally, for many it might have little impact.
But we are advised that some items sourced in China are being delayed and that there may be extra checks at entry points to the EU so, if there are delays, we’d not be too surprised.
More worryingly is that on washing machine testing we’ve been finding that many washing machines have not been cleaning as they should do with pitiful cleaning results and if this outbreak does begin to present a real issue that is a big, big problem.
