British white goods and electronics retailer Dixons has refuted speculation about a large-scale move into Poland.

Earlier detailed reports suggested that the company was preparing to open a chain of stores that would rival Media Markt and RTV AGD under the Electro World brand.

“Contrary to claims, the Dixons Group is not about to enter the Polish market,” Hamish Thompson, a Dixon media representative said.

However, the company has left the door open for possible future moves into Poland. “The story is premature speculation,” Mr. Thompson said. “We regularly carry out assessments of potential European markets to assess their viability, but we have no short-term plans to enter the Polish market, nor is it our practice to pre-announce such plans.”

The Dixons Group has more than 1,400 stores across Europe and trades as Dixons, Currys, PC World, The Link, Elkjop, PC City, and Electro World. (Warsaw Business Journal)
