Electrolux AB broke ground last week on the plant for its front-loading washers and dryers in South Ju??rez. Production is scheduled to begin in 2008.
The project represents an investment of more than $130 million and the plant will employ more than 800 direct workers, company officials said.
The refrigerator plant next door, which started production just 11 months ago, is making 4,000 side-by-side refrigerator-freezers a day and starting a second production line of traditional top-mount refrigerator-freezers ahead of schedule.
“We have equally high expectations for this new facility in Ju??rez,” Rafael Lopez, general manager at Electrolux in Ju??rez, said of the washer-dryer plant.
The washers and dryers line comes from a plant in Webster City, Iowa, that will lose 700 jobs.
