Kind of on/off topic a bit.
For a number of years I’ve wanted to survey engineers and the companies that use them to get a better understanding and opinion of what everyone thinks on a number of fronts.
This has, so far as I know, never been attempted before in the industry and nobody has ever bothered to ask for opinion. I find that quite remiss, if not sad.
Now, to do that to the N-th Degree is not only intensive for me to build up the survey, as I learned way back when I first attempted to do that but, it’s also too onerous on the engineers and others. Maybe next time we will go into more detail.
What I and the WTA guys and gals came up with was a simplified survey for people in the industry.
Is it perfect, no.
It’s the first time anyone let alone us have ever dipped our toe in this particular pool so I wouldn’t expect perfection, that’d be somewhat unreasonable. What we have done is build up a survey that we hope gives us all a deeper insight and understanding of what all the parties are looking for from one another.
We hope to highlight the areas that need addressed which are the biggest points of grief or concern.
The short of this is though, I need five minutes or so of your time to help us to help you. Your opinion is both needed and wanted.
The results we will present at the conference, with the usual commentary that I’m sure regular attendees will fully expect and most likely a few twists and turns you probably won’t see coming. We hope.
The more people that respond, the more validity the survey has. It’s that simple.
That’s all up to you though, not me or anyone else.

I know we keep harping on about it but, the guys need to arrange catering, seating, fire safety stuff, capacity and a bunch of other things to make this happen and go off without a hitch. Or at least, as glitch free as possible.
Hotel rooms are going so, if you do need a room, please book it ASAP or you might not get one.
Hopefully over the course of this week I/we will be posting up more of the stuff that is happening but, there’s as anyone that’s been will know, some interesting stuff.
I know that there will be a number of brands with a presence attending with products that are aimed at you guys for selling and, one or two that will be looking for service partners.
In the past day or so I’ve been told about a company that, as I understand it, essentially crowd funds discounts on energy and fuels, including that really expensive stuff you weep about filling your car or van with.
If anyone was thinking of displaying anything, you may well be past the point of being able to do so because, if there’s any space left it may well be in the cupboard in the corner. It is that tight this year.
For those that have been, Malcolm is doing his update on market trends as well as some other presentations that aren’t just myself and Lawrence’s normal double act. Although, this time around that will be entertaining and yes, Switzerland will get a mention. 😉

Last year was disappointingly short ,which I understand was by popular demand ,but none the less disappointing for me. Presentation was all over by about 2.30/3ish ? After a long lunch as well .
Whats the plan this year ? Same or back to it being longer ?Simon.

Sadly Simon getting that right is like walking a tightrope while getting battered senseless by at least two factions on either side of you.
But there is a fair bit of content this year.

With the amount of stuff from the front this year it should be longer,to be honest we always feel stuck between a rock and a hard place regarding how long to do.
But the presentations this year should be good .
The survey results will be revealed throughout the day from the stage and will help us to tie things together.
On that note if you haven’t filled the survey out yet please do so as the more response we get then the more reliable the data becomes.
Then we can use that Data as evidence for future projects more of that on the day..Lawrence

Well thats it, as of today we are fully booked out for stand space in the display area,Its fair to say we are really close to standing room only.
I can also say that this conference looks to be the biggest yet,for example there are over 20 rooms booked for the Thurs night alone which has never happened before.
The content for the day looks to be very interesting and we think we will easily go in to late afternoon.
There has been a mammoth amount of work gone on prior to the event by the WTA team and others that were co-opted/coerced 😆 in to helping so a big thank you to all involved
Finally If you haven’t registered yet please can you do so as we need to count the sausage rolls 😆

Will you be discussing the future 6-12 months for independents, as someone somewhere has plans that may well change the current picture.
And don’t say “Come along and find out”.

Other than cursory stuff I’d doubt it TBH as it’s hard to predict the future.
How could anyone have predicted or know about some of the stuff we’ve seen the past few years? I don’t know how anyone could have foreseen the likes of Brandt collapsing, Baumatic and goodness knows what else, all of which have caused a bit of upset.
You are correct though in that there are “things” happening and that it might be in the best interests of some to, how can I say it, be in the loop maybe or to try to make sure they don’t get forgotten about? 😕
It’s hard to tell people Lee as I think I know what you might be on about, that is, without breaking confidence at any rate. And, like you if you are on about what I think you’re on about, I sure ain’t gonna publish it.
There is a cryptic clue in this post however but you’d have to be really clever, lucky or be aware to suss it.
