And, if you have to ask the cost, you can’t afford it. 😉 😆
Seriously though, it is a LOT of work that goes into these things even although we end up winging a lot of it most of the way, we have to know the topics inside and out. That takes an inordinate amount of time to do as well as a lot of conversation, research and effort.
It is however immensely gratifying to have entertained and informed in a way that the forums etc just, IMO, cannot replicate.
Video might work a little but, honestly, I have a face for radio. Note, Lawrence can adequately slag himself off, I don’t need to.
The point of it is to educate though, not to chastise or do the whole wagging finger thing and if those there got one, two or more things to take home out the meeting and the talks then job done so far as I’m concerned. It’s all about seeing things from a different perspective. Sometimes that doesn’t sit well, makes people a bit uncomfortable and so forth but, in the end, it is invariably a good thing because, it encourages you use that grey matter thing.
Hopefully those that were there now might have a somewhat different take on the media, consumer legislation and a few other things that affect our daily lives in this business.
I would like to point out however, in the strongest possible terms, it isn’t just Lawrence and I that make this possible by any stretch. There’s a whole team of unsung heroes that, if they were not there, these events just wouldn’t be possible.
In no particular order I would like to highlight…
Bryan Williams
Tina Williams
Debbie Carey
Barrie Munro
Valerie Baldwin
Steven Withers
George Laugharne
Tracey Rodger
Ian DalesAnd not to mention all the members and attendees that just pitch in because they happen to be there and offer to help.
Please, don’t think this is just a two man show because it isn’t, not even remotely. And, I really don’t want the importance, hard work, dedication and sheer dogged perseverance of these invaluable people to go without acknowledgement. I’m sure that anyone that was helped by the team would agree, I know Lawrence would.
As lovely as it might be to take credit, it really isn’t ours to take. As in, Lawrence and I.
We might be the ones that get up on stage and do the presentation thing but, that’s only one small part of the whole event. Probably, a smaller part in some respects.
This post is my big thanks to them all for their hard graft. And, for putting up with myself and Lawrence doing what we do.
To these people, your work is hugely appreciated and does not pass without notice as, without your efforts, these events would not be possible.

would it be worth putting up a small guide on consumer rights etc –
ie in a format that an engineer etc would be able to refer to – kinda like a quick guide ?
it could be headed

You’re far too modest Ken, you must take some of the credit. 😉

Yes it was a great day and I would like to add my thanks and appreciation to all of you who made it happen. It was a little spoiled for me on the Thursday night as, not feeling well, I wasn’t able to finish even one helping of dessert…. 😥
But on a positive note I’ve just renewed my van insurance through Commercial Vehicle Direct who had the stand there. It’s with Allianz and is £250 cheaper than I paid last year, and £125 cheaper than the quote from Peacock Insurance, also known to UKW members, and who are btw very reasonable for Public Liability insurance. 🙂 So I’ve already recouped the cost of attending. 😆
I’ve been in contact with Steve Haslett from Combined Buying Services who gave the presentation on phone and fuel cost reduction, to see if he can reduce my extortionate BT phone/broadband bill, and will report back in due course.

It appears that we were not the only ones that enjoyed the day….

An excellent resume. We could do with their reviewer writing up every meeting….. 😀
