Participantok. i am new on here but i am stuck… bought washing machine HOTPOINT WT741. the previous owner said it was playing up.
i inspected everything. seems to be in order. went to get drain cap off but could not as there is damage. the bit you hold on to unscrew is broken. i have no way of removing it. nor do i know if there is a tool to help remove this cap??
What should i do? i hope i get some advice soon as i think now the problems the previous owner had was related to the drain pump being faulty. i do not want to buy a new unit yet until i inspect the problem within the cap!!!
Thanks for reading and hope someone came across the same issue and can advice 🙂
ohh. forgot this… the previous owner stated those problems…
1- couple of settings are temperamental
2= sometimes has to be spun twicei am led to believe the settings wont function properly if the drain pump is not functioning as it should?? and for the spun twice means blockage in drain pump as well??

If the filter insert (cap) is broken then it has almost certainly been damaged due to foreign bodies getting into the pump. Coins, nails, hairgrips and all sorts of rubbish end up in there if the user just can’t be bothered to check pockets.
You can buy new filters but you would need to remove the pump from underneath to allow you to open the pump up to get rid of the obstructions. Other than that fitting a new pump is an alternative course of action.
Be sure to remove the mains plug before putting your hands inside.
THIS is the pump filter kit, comes with three different filters to cover all varients.
The complete pump and filter is HERE

Thanks so much, will remove pump and try to clear things inside to try remove filter and replace it with a new one.
That filter kit directly fits what i have?
Remove pump, do i look in inlet/outlet to remove anything causing blockage and something make cap unable to be removed? How do i get cap/filter removed?
Step by step be ideal pls or video? Thanks

We don’t do step by step or videos, we assume you have a reasonable level of competence, If not then you should get someone who has to have a look.
If you tilt the machine back against a wall or similar you can drop the whole pump out of the bottom, just have a few towels handy and possibly someone to hold the machine steady for you.
One of the filters in that kit will fit.

?????
You can only buy them as a complete kit, the chances of anyone wanting the spares ones is remote, around 75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time it’s the same one that I find is needed. 😥
I will make a starting bid of 1p for both of them. 😉

That what i meant lol, i found same product on ebay for £14.99 free p&p. Bought it now. Will remove pump tomorrow to try and take filter out.
I am capable of doing it myself, just need a guide on safe way to remove filter without breaking the pump itself. A good method. Showing u a picture of it now. Hopefully u can help again 🙂

Take the pump off complete as described above. Once you have removed the hoses you should be able to get the obstructions out from the side of the pump.

Believe me, I have vented my spleen about the problems with Facebook, it’s a real PITA and no mistake. It makes the forum on Internet Explorer virtually unusable at times.I have to resort to my iPad or use Chrome on my PC to save me punching the screen. :rolls:
