Beko must write a letter thanking Rupert Murdoch. 😉

The family were told by Beko that their model wasn’t affected when they phoned about it prior to the fire. It’s either a separate unfortunate instance caused by something different or more models than currently advised are affected.

Unfortunately the evidence has apparently been stolen..

    Indeed.

TBH I don’t think it’s even been proved that the fridge caused it.

You have to wonder who’d steal a burnt out fridge though.

Exactly, however, to be fair the fire brigade were reported as having blamed the fridge – but they apparently said it was too badly damaged to be able to identify it. If the fridge has been “stolen”, (which is being blamed on scrap thieves) then it’s not possible to implicate Beko without evidence.

When I first saw it had been stolen I suspected Beko, but quickly decided that was a pretty crazy – if funny – thought 😉

    This is not good news…

Information is still coming in so the story may change as things get clearer.

    Re: Beko fridge freeze recall

When I heard about this tragedy the news reporter said neighbours had reported hearing an explosion before the fire. I immediately thought of the exploding fridges, and also remarked to the wife that if I was Beko I’d be seriously concerned .. I sincerely hope it isn’t an appliance that’s been subject to a safety warning.

I feel sorry for anyone who has to make a decision, which can sometimes mean a choice between authorising catastrophically expensive expense, which could severely or even fatally wound a company to be totally sure of customer safety and taking a calculated risk that it will all work out ok. Of course it’s still speculation at the moment but the principle and moral dilemma I talk about is powerfully real.

They say that the Beko Fridge isn’t part of their inquiry here.

Ouch, that’s gotta smart some. Reuters have really gone for it on this story.

would be really interesting to see if you could get hands on fire brigade incident reports .. are they public docs .?

i bet their would be a pattern of incidents with certain products ..

I work for Scottish Gas. Do not compare us with British Gas please. Up here we are good …ish.

I have now replaced about 100 timers. Not one of them has shown any sign of damage. However Ive found a couple of capacitors which have been burning. ( we also wrap the caps in heavy sticky tinfoil as part of the safety mod.
