    Re: Fault Code Guide

Sorry, just sitting here drinking a whisky and pondering the old days of repairing TV’s and thinking to myself about this Fault Code Guide…. Many moons ago, hmm hmmm!!,there was a fault guide for TV’s, unfortunately the old grey cells wont allow me the recall of its title, however, this TV faults guide after a few years became a CD Database rather than a book and this CD Database was home editable.. ie. you could add your own faults and repairs to it… I know it is a bit of a far cry since we are all far too busy to do it ourselves, but has anyone given thought to applying this practice to our current Fault Code Guide… Either Online or CD… Where we could pay for access and add errors or simply buy the CD like we buy the book… This would give a massive advantage to the ageing memories of a few of us.

Replies in simple terms with a reminder of what the subject is!!

    Re: Fault Code Guide

    Hi all,

New member and first time poster. I’ve just joined the site as I’ve very recently set up a business servicing machines here in Dublin. (a business that my father ran for a long time but thats been idle for over ten years). I’ve tried to keep my hand in over that time, doing nixers and the like, but have decided that now is the time to ‘deficate or get off the pot’ so to speak. So I’ve set up http://www.dmappliances.com and I’m hoping that there’s work out there and that I can make a go of it!
Which begs the question as to why I’m on this particular thread.
Well, I need guidance!, Or more specifically, ‘The Guide’. I’m hoping that you’re still producing The fault code guide and that you’d be so kind as to deliver one to me in dublin please.
If this is the case please let me know what I have to do re: payment, address, etc. and I’ll do so straight away.

    Thanks in advance.

The price for trade members is around £10 I believe though I don’t know what the Euro equivalent + postage would be to the Emerald Isle.

I would think it best you email Dave Conway on spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk and request a copy. 💡

Are these still available, have they been updated?

I could do with 7. Any chance some could be brought to the meeting later this week?

    Re: Fault Code Guide

    Hi Alex,

No, not been updated due to a lack of time to do it in.

And, no can do as I’m out the office and have been all day, not back home until Saturday. Sorry.

Still need 7. I’ll take a chance on 3 years out of date as fault codes are usually kept the same over a period of time.

    How do I order?

Let me try to remember to check what stock we have left, I don’t know that there’s many still there.

    Re: Fault Code Guide

Okay, finally an update on this.

I started work a while back (a year ago or so) on transferring the data into a more “print friendly” format and got a little ways into it and thought, “you know what, this is just stupid” the reason is that it’s a whole heap of work to do it (months worth) and then you have to reorganise it all to update it and all sorts.

So I decided that this wasn’t the way forward as in, to print the guide.

I am now pursuing doing it as an “app” for iPhone, Android and possibly Windows 7 based phones as well as, obviously, iPad.

There could also be a Mac OS and Windows client as well.

This allows to do it dynamically and deliver the info straight to your phone or PC.

In short, the books are now gone and there won’t be another one as it’s all moving into the digital space.

Will this work on the Blackberry phones?

No idea as yet in all honesty, it’s not one we looked at as there’s not that many people using them that I know. Most seem to be iPhone and Android.

If it can be ported easily I can’t see why not though. Just depends on the cost to do it and how many people want it which will dictate whether it’s worth the cost or not.
