K. Well done Ken 😉 Is it OK to call David “out of hours?”

Na, it goes onto answer automatically at 5pm. 😕
I was trying to do it as an online thing but, to cut a long story short, I haven’t got the discount codes thing sorted yet. I’ll have a think about that though as it’s make our life easier as well to do it online.

It’s a bit cloak and dagger but here you go…
Remember that you have to create an account in there as the one from the forums does not carry over to the shop for security purposes.

It’s good to go Mal, sorry I was on a rare evening off tonight. Well, until now at least. Just remember the postal strike/s.
I hope you and others like it as I’ve managed to cram it full of fault code info as well as test and diagnostics routines, only putting them all together in some semblance of order and rewriting a lot of them. Some of them needed re-writing just to make the damn things make sense as I can now testify that some of the info that the manufacturers put out is just truly woeful. Due to that I redrew a few of the diagrams as well.
If this one sells enough at least to cover the costs, which wasn’t exactly cheap, I’ll extend the idea a bit more as I’ve gotten a lot more fault code info now. The things that held it back was time mainly as in, my time to write it all and also the printing lead time as this was supposed to arrive two months ago. I’ll never get why many other people can’t work as fast and just get the job done.
And, whilst I hate to be brutal about it, this took me over a month to write up and, if we don’t sell enough to at least cover the costs, there will never be another one written and I seriously doubt that many people could collate the information again, especially to extend it. And, boy, do I want to extend it. 😉
Anyways, it’s done now and only time will tell the future of the guide. 🙂

Ken will it only be available to UKW members?….i’m sure a few of the willing public would buy a copy….just like they would buy a Haynes manual….
And of course, it would put it above the parapet 😉

Yeah Clive, IIRC UK trading laws mean that we can’t restrict it to “approved” customers. PITA at times legislation is. 😉
However although it’s available to retail customer or non-UKW members that doesn’t mean to say that we have to make it cheap for them to buy one. I mean, if you really wanna pay retail I’ll be quite happy as you can see from this link but for God’s sake don’t anyone with access here buy it off that link, use the one above!

Have already done so 😆
Yes.. ask the public to pay a realistic price thats perfectly fair. The trading laws are not what i was getting at, rather the copyright laws…or at least getting up the noses of one or two manufacturers who will might not be over the moon 😉 about it 😆

Well, it’s like this see…
The fault codes have pretty much been on here for two years or more and, if they take me to task, then they’re also going to take anyone that’s printed the thread off to task as well and that would include Jeremy for his PDF. Which is interesting in a way as Jeremy did it first so I’m guessing that, in a breach of copyright claim, he’s probably first in the firing line as that had nothing whatsoever to do with UKW as it wasn’t written or hosted on UK Whitegoods at all, in any way.
There’s also a lovely list of “I’ll have a copy” posts for all to read.
Not one manufacturer said “boo” about that either.
Trouble is that, I can’t say who has or hasn’t printed them off so does that mean that anyone with a grip wants to take over 1200 trade members to court or wants details for them all? In just the same way I’ve no clue who Jeremy emailed a copy of his PDF to so it’d just be an insane mess as even I don’t know who half the people are that have access to that thread. And, as I have always said, without a court order, I will not reveal who hold the accounts either. People have now given up asking me to tell them who’s who finally.
Beyond that we do have a clear privacy policy and, if people don’t read that then that’s their problem but this does go a long way to protecting the users of UKW as well as UKW itself. I did a fair old bit of work on that one.
Fun innit. 😉
However it’d be pretty difficult to shout about it after they’ve been freely available for so long.
Anyway, it’s also difficult to claim copyright on “F-09: pump faulty” as several of them are actually the same across various brands, especially where they’ve been buying stuff from A.N. Other. So, for example, you can get the full diagnostics in the book for the Whirlpool dishwasher, but not as a Whirlpool, as a CDA. Just because there’s a note to see CDA in the Whirlpool section isn’t a breach of copyright.
I have been advised by a solicitor that specialises in this area that is not possible to trademark generic terms and that, if the text is rewritten as has been done, then copyright is, at very best, extremely difficult to prove.
TBH though this wasn’t done to upset anyone at all, nor am I looking for a fight, but it was done for the good of the repairers so that they have the information to hand when they get calls. IMO that does the brand name owners a favour as the machines can actually be considered more repairable if the engineers have the information that they need to do the job rather than just writing the machines off as a “motor and module failure” which we all know happens.
So, benefit to the repairers, customer gets better and more informed service and the manufacturer’s name isn’t tarnished in the same way it could have been. Sorry, but I’m not seeing a downside here for anyone.
