No Jim, ‘fraid not.
The problem with Nokia and Sony Ericsson is that if you do an app on their platforms they take 70-80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the revenue and then the developer also has to pay the network carrier a bounty as well!
That means that, unless you sold thousands upon thousands of copies, it’s just not worth the trouble.
Hence the huge amount of apps for Apple iOS and Android based product and very little for most others.
Developers don’t like to work for nothing. 😉
But even Google and Apple take a hunk of cash out it, both Google and Apple platforms run 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of every sale. Which you may think is high but, it’s a damn sight better than the totally closed Nokia and Sony systems. I’m not sure what RIM charge for the Blackberry apps.

Not a problem, the Linux system and Firefox plus my unlimited internet access means that I can browse the site at a very good speed anyway. 8)

Hi Phil,
‘Tis no problem and I’m well aware what a PDF is, I create them every other day. 😉
The problem with PDF is twofold, one I can’t update it on the fly as I get new information and, two, there’s no control whatsoever on the copyright.
Add to that the fact that it’s… well… clumsy and so last year. 😉
I’ve seen several people trying to find a downloadable digital version of the FCG on various warez sites, some in the past couple of weeks and, yes, I was surprised at it. The problem with that is, I get alerts on that sorta stuff so I will generally find out sooner or later. Plus, I’ve been on t’internet long enough to a) know where to look and b) know people that will tell me when stuff pops up.
One of the parties that was trying to (basically) steal the use book for peanuts was a rather large organisation who just wouldn’t pay the money for the use of the info. Given that this is a business churning many, many millions of pounds and taking work off the indies I didn’t think it unreasonable to expect them to pay a few grand for the privilege of using the info but they thought differently.
So, with that all in mind, a PDF edition will not happen I’m afraid.

Famous last words. :rolls:
Because I have indeed allowed (I did it in fact) the FCG to become a PDF available for download but, at no cost whatsoever.
Yep, it’s completely, totally and utterly free for all.
I even updated it with a lot of the info that some very helpful and generous people have posted in the known error codes thread and a few other bits and bobs I’d picked up along the way. So, it’s now about 136 pages or something. Anyone that did help, doesn’t have WTA access and wants a copy just let me know and I’ll get you a copy, it’s the very least I can do for the people that give up time and effort to help everyone here and, it is appreciated.
And, just to prove it, here’s a pic Ade took earlier of it running on his iPhone.
So far we know it works on iPhone (obviously) a lot of Nokia smartphones, I assume Blackberry machines and it should be cross-platform compatible and work fine on most major OSs.
Just one small snag to it…
For the next couple of weeks or so it’s only available to WTA members and, that’s it.
Is this designed to make you look at the TA and maybe just think about joining it, you bet it is. No beating about the bush, no veiled nothing, just plain straight up truth that that’s exactly what that’s all about.
The version that I release generally WILL have more advertising in it, spares and appliance distributors feel free to contact me for very decent rates on that, and will be released not only to the trade but completely openly. You can’t have a half-way open platform, it’s either open or it isn’t.
Judging by the calls I see on torrent sites and other file sharing mediums (yes, I do see it and do know it goes on, I was file sharing before a lot of you probably knew the internet existed :rolls:) I have to assume that there’s a number of traders that want it distributed that way. So, fine, I’ll seed it into the FS community across several platforms, no problem.
As I am often reminded, be careful what you wish for, someone might just give it you.
But any future updates or releases will follow a similar pattern unless something changes. The updates will be issued clean to TA members some weeks ahead of everyone else and with minimal (if any) advertising. Unless of course said advertisers negotiate a deal with the WTA to have them there, but that’s got nothing to do with me, you’ll have to talk to the TA people about that.
Anyway, only another couple of weeks to go and you can all have access to the new version of the FCG completely for free.

KeymasterI should hope so, it was made on a Mac. 😉
It should display great on any iOS device basically, I had that in mind. Even though I had to use that stinking MS Word due to the formatting of some of the tables that I used way back when.

Please, before you phone up or email looking for a copy of the FCG make sure that you are a member of the WTA as, if you aren’t then you won’t get access to the TA forum to download the FCG.
You can confirm membership by emailing admin@whitegoodstradeassociation.org
Or, you can go here and see if you’re listed as a member and, if you’re not on there, then the probability is that you’re not a member. That’s all we can do as well and, if you ain’t on there, without someone from the TA (email address above) telling us to allow you access to their forums we can’t do it.
Thanks
K.

Will it be possible to sign up to the WTA at the meeting in Coventry, if we bring proof of PLA? I’ve sent off the forms twice now but no reply either time… much prefer to sort things face to face if possible :).

Hi Chris…
Email me your email address, and I’ll make sure it gets sorted. Otherwise, at the meeting is fine 🙂
