April and May were the quietest we’ve had for a few years. The majority of the work that was coming in, was from letting agents, who of course we invoice. That made a massive dent in the money that was coming in.
It has only started to pick up this week.
Speaking to other trades in the area, a lot of them are saying the same.

Strange times!! Lets just hope it picks up next week. I can’t cope with another few weeks of just ticking over, with a big tax bill hanging over me.

Yes, its our 25 year this year and it has got to be the quietest yet. The year started well but this last month has been the worst on record. I was hoping it would pick up this week but it seems to be worse. Roll on the end of the month, hopefully everybody has been waiting to be paid.

dead as mutton!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sitting by the phone getting bored. there seems to be no money about had a job booked two weeks in advance waiting for pay check, also quoted £60 for a boot on a bosch they cant afford it this week and I know the house…. £500,000.

Yeah, it’s little consolation knowing it’s not just me but its still hard going waiting for it change. Fingers crossed for next week.

For the 1st time in over 20 years I’m actively looking at other jobs. Have applied for 1 and will see what happens

After keyhole surgery on my knee in March which needs doing again I’ve decided to retire(would be hammered with tax if I kept going as an OAP)and since that decision the phone has rung probably 4 times a week if that. I refer callers to a local engineer but must say I couldn’t have survived on what’s coming in and as the weather is great I’m enjoying sitting in the garden. 8)
I remember when I worked for Servis, both of them, it went dead around May and June but since being self employed it has never been this quiet.
I hope it picks up soon for all you lads.

Chin up lads ,I keep a graph on the wall going back around 7 years June is historically the worst month of the year ,would imagine the summer getaway has to be paid for May/June leaving them skint . The second half of the year is always the busier than the first Cras

Absolutely dead as dead can be in West Yorkshire. I have been looking at getting a regular job to simply pay the bills. I also do work in television and film as a sound recordist and been offered a months work for a flat rate of £1800 so I might have to take that option.

I got out of doing the traditional domestic appliance repairs you guys do several yrs ago, I’m not busy, I’m not dead just ticking along nicely. Stranger still my Spanish interest is very busy and has been since the crisis started.

I’m not out of the industry though, I’m still in the UK and im still in white goods, it’s my income source that’s changed and it’s not reliant on Mrs B and her broken Beko or loads of Mr Appliance Doctor’s doing free estimates or undercutting my charges.
I’ve evolved.

Looking on my records over the last 6 years, between Easter and School summer holidays are the quietest. If I didn’t have kids, I would take the time out to cruise with the caravan.
I’m with Lee8 that the source of income is changing and evolving. I have three unsold fully repaired working washing machines that I can’t shift and they are not naff machines just decent types. Usually it goes quickly.
