Are sure you have enough time? Your all booked up! Carefull you might end up with too much work and you will be moaning about that next!

I’m sensing a bit of self doubting :). Anyway it’s a beautiful evening here in sunny Exeter and I’m taking my lovely wife out for a slap up meal.

My local store post office/owner commented that trade is very quiet. The DIY store owner in the post office said his trade had slumped this last several weeks. Everywhere is quieter than usual, even this website has had very little activity in recent weeks. Today the last post was over 4 hrs ago…! Where’s everyone gone? Brighton or Bournemouth I guess. 😀

Agree Martin. I’ve got a lot of friends that are plumbers,electricians,etc that all seem to be scratching around. My daughter is a hairdresser and their salon is very quiet but luckily she’s employed so still gets paid.

My thoughts, if times are quiet the last thing I would want to do is expand my business. It’s hard enough scraping a living together for myself at the moment without having to worry about paying staff or keeping a stock of expensive whitegoods with shop rent and rates to pay. Even if stock is on account, it only takes a few quiet months before the creditors demand their payment. I believe in the theory – The bigger you are, the harder you fall.

Talking rubbish again, so explain why there is a lot of bigger business’s in this trade that have not failed? despite them running a shop with wages, stock and credit accounts.
You can not assume these things on your obviously limited knowledge of retail business’s.

Luckily we’re very busy at the moment – booking around a week in advance for White/Gas/Fridge.
Same thing happened last year, we were extremely busy – started to expand into a 2nd site, more staff and so on. The work literally dried up over night, contracts suddenly pulled and we had to make 3 engineers redundant and support staff were rota’d in to 4 day weeks for 3 months. The powers that be didn’t seem to plan for this (nice for a company in it’s 10th year of trading).
We’ve finally have recovered and now back to a nice growth period. Hopefully they’ve budgeted for a “rainy day” situation should it ever crop up again.
Still, didn’t one of the Directors rocking up in a brand new 60K+ Merc on the day we were told this.

Sorry to bring this old chestnut up again, but is anybody else quiet?
Its just interesting to know what other peoples work loads are like. I’ve found most of the time the trends are the same all over the country but I am going through a quite spell at the moment and it would just be interesting.Amazingly I looked at the diary from last year and the same week in June was it was also quiet. About the same workload as this. Last month about the same time, just after the bank holiday, I was absolutely snowed under and was literally working all hours to fit the work in.
I just wish I could put my finger on why the works dropped off, its not the end of the month, weathers not great so people are still using their dryers. Maybe people paying for their summer hols? Even my regular contributors, 5 or 6 estate agents haven’t rung anything through.
Its amazing how it never fails to go quiet just around the time I have to get ready to pay the tax bill. Great!!!
