ParticipantHi Iadom, Thanks for all of the info yesterday. I decided to bite the bullet and get myself a Megger and perform the insulation test properly. Always wanted one and this has pushed me to get one. Should arrive tomorrow so will update you when I have “played” with it.

ParticipantHi Iadom. Insulation Tester arrived today. Tested heater element @ 500v DC. Display on tester is in G ohms and I am getting 1.42
Is the element faulty ? I hope so as I have removed it now!!!

ModeratorIt does sound as though the element is suspect. I would carefully isolate the two wires going to the heater. I honestly can’t remember if they have plastic covers on them or not, just tape the tags with some insulation tape if they don’t. Then refit all of the connections to the new control board, plug in, switch on and see what happens. If it doesn’t trip then next step would be a new element.

ModeratorThis is the element for all ISE 10 machines. https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/8061706-washing-machine-water-heater . Never had to change one myself .

ParticipantLatest update: Following your last advice re. tripping RCD, I received and fitted a new heating element today and no more problems with tripping RCD however (and disappointingly) we are still experiencing problems running a full wash cycle. Bizarrely, when we powered the machine up for the first time after fitting the heater element it looked all very promising, set up a quick wash (timer showed 0:45), machine filled, washed, drained and at 0:18 appeared to attempt to spin but after a couple of aborted attempts at 0:17 it just stopped and didn’t want to proceed. Tried re-setting to either rinse or spin and drain but didn’t want to play. Tried re-starting a quick wash again but machine filled and then instantly drained and stopped. All of these symptoms are the same as at the beginning of our catalogue of troubles before fitting the new control panel. Any suggestions what might still be causing our problem ?

ModeratorReally strange why it tripped with the new module and not the old one??? Have you tried it with the original module? It’s all total guesswork now, could the faulty element have compromised both modules? I honestly do not know what the answer is from here.:(

ParticipantWhat are your experiences with Inverters Iadom? Could all of our problems be caused by a faulty Inverter? I know the machine can spin as it has done it (surprisingly) on recent occasions, then other times the drum will have a half-hearted half rotation and nothing more, although it will sometimes repeat this half rotation a few times before appearing to give up !

ModeratorExperience with the inverter board on ISE10 machines is nil, never had to change one, never had a fault on one ever.
As I mentioned earlier heating elements with even very small earth leakages can cause all sorts of weird and totally unrelated faults and error messages on all sorts of machines, I have had faults on Hotpoint and Hoover machines on various models that report drain or spin error codes that have eventually been traced to low heater insulation.
Zanussi washer dryers used to be well known for several different strange faults that resolve to low insulation on the dryer side elements.I will say that in 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of all of the cases on those machines, changing the element cured the fault without having to change the module.
Have you tried the original module?

ParticipantI haven’t tried it with the new element and the old panel but out of desperation I guess anything is worth a try. A job for tomorrow, and I will let you know how it goes.

ParticipantOK. I fitted the old control panel back into the washing machine this morning and powered it up. It went directly to 0:14 on the display as if it wanted to continue the spin at the point it failed yesterday with the new panel. After a couple of feeble attempts of half a turn each of the drum and stopping it finally decided not to try again, so I seem to be getting exactly the same symptoms with either panel fitted that I have been getting from the start. I really don’t know where to go next with this !

ParticipantA little extra info. Yesterday it did a wash and a rinse (I think!) but wouldn’t spin. So that wash load is now dripping on the line to slowly dry so I thought as it might be a nice day it might be worth doing the same again to make the best of a bad job and at least get some items washed. Machine filled, sat silent for a few minutes as if it was heating then drained all that nice heated and detergent infused water down the drain and is now sitting silent (mocking me no doubt!). Short of threatening to thrash it with birch twigs I just can’t seem to get to what is causing the problem.

Moderatorfrom what your saying it seems motor sometimes turns and sometimes not
are you sure there are no broken wires in the loom between motor and control unit ?
does motor turn with no weight in ?

ParticipantI am pretty sure the drum behaves the same whether empty or loaded but I will double check this statement, and check the wiring later today, however yesterday the drum did carry out a wash and the prelude to the final spin where it spins slowly in both directions for a few occasions but when it just started to crank up to a full spin it just went silent (pump stopped) and drum came to a halt. Then nothing. Control lighting still on. When turned on this morning with the original control panel re-fitted (as suggested by Iadom) the machine defaulted to 0:15 on the display as if it wanted to run the final spin from yesterday, but performed half a turn of the drum and stopped…. again.

ParticipantOne extra thing to add to the list: I set the was cycle up today with no drain (no spin) hoping that at least the drum would retain the wash water to limp through a wash cycle but once again it filled, drained and stopped as before.
