ISE10 1400/1600 induction motor ?

Having a read about this machine and it seems there were two models of it ? One that initially came out as a 1400 spin AAB and then the 1600 spin AAA.

Did the 1400 have a brush motor or was that also an induction motor as in the 1600 variant but just lower spin speed ?

1400 had a brush motor. The particular batch was not made exactly to specification and is now not a retail option. All current 1600 machines use the 3 phase induction motor – silence……….

Was there a difference in reliability between the two motors ?

The maytags still currently do the 1400 variant which I take it is the old ISE10 ?

There is no old ISE10. There were 219 machines not manufactured to specification, these are all sold and in the system, full product support is available. The drive motor brushes will eventually wear out and can be replaced. If that’s under 10 years, it’s in warranty.

We have no interest in Maytag products.

Had a look on the JL website and they have a Maytag which looks exactly like the ISE 10 (in SS) but the spec is 1400AAB.

Does that indicate that their machine is similar to the 1st batch of ISE10’s then ?

Apart from quietness is an induction motor more reliable than a brush one ?

Yes, similar to the first machines that came in.

Induction motors tend to be more reliable IME as they have no brushes or commutator to wear in fact, about the only thing that goes wrong with them is the bearings eventually wear out after many years.

OK, I’m tempted now to go for the Maytag MAF9501AEW in that case.

It’s generally available at around £500. Is this a good buy ?

Depends on how much value you place on the local service, 10 year warranty and lower cost spares.

Bear in mind that, if you need service beyond the warranty on a Maytag these days it will cost you about £100 before you kick a ball.

But if you feel that’s the option for you, go for it.

Yes, I do value those qualities but £800 for a washing machine in today’s world is an awful lot of money.

I’d love to go for the ISE10 but it’s out of my budget. The Maytag is about the most I really wish to pay for a quality washer.

Before you commit to maytag ,here is something to consider ,I had a customer on the phone this morning asking me if I could repair her maytag t/d (asko type)as Maytag called 14 weeks ago and still had not returned to fit the part.

Whether it’s an ISE10 or a Maytag it’s an ASKO machine. I would hope that if one is reliable and designed to last 20 years then the brand name slapped on it would do little to change that in either case.

I do like the ISE10 but as I said £800 is not on the radar at the moment. There’s a finacial crisis going on in the world and money is not growing on trees !!! It’s approaching twice the price of the Maytag for not twice the machine.

Even if I had to buy twice in the next 10 years I would hope an ASKO machine serves me well. Of course I don’t plan to buy twice…..

what the guys are trying to tell you is that you will get a strong infrastructure of service agents geared up to serve the customer well

as opposed to maytag, who would be quite happy to leave you dangling for weeks for a part that should be in stock!!

Hi All

I think Ekkostar should purchase the Maytag as its the one he wants..We have all put the pro’s and con’s him and I dont think we will be able to get him to come round to the fact that Maytag spec and have the machine built for profit 1st of all then reliability 2nd.

The cabinet and factory may be the same but its what’s specified and the extra build quality that is built into the machine that makes the difference ! which doesnt make much difference if they arrive in the same box does it ?.
