You know, I seem to recall that we’ve been hearing the same thing for a few years now from you.
Same rhetoric, same “secret squirrel” stuff that nobody else knows about.
And, the same thing has come of it.
Nothing.
I’m starting to think it’s just all BS, nothing to support the assertions at all that I can see.
I also still fail to see any benefit to the independents at all or for that matter, pretty much anyone else, especially those that actually do the work.

I’m up for that!! I like a good laugh. I should be able to sit that exam while I boil the kettle for my coffee! Beats doing the crossword I suppose.
I’m not using Knowhow as an example of how it should be. Completely the opposite and I’ve been openly critical of them and the “engineers”.
I actually believe in having a trade qualification to show at least a bit of knowledge, for safety if nothing else, what good it will do at this stage I don’t know because I do believe it’s the low cost of the appliances which is strangling the industry, and customers attitude which seems to be a never ending battle.
I’ve just posted on a new thread concerning the testing of hard wired cookers etc. Sarcasticly mentioned qualifications and education.
For all the examples of how bad the people at Knowhow etc are, there are just as many examples of poor standards, quality etc etc.
Afterall since there is no standard of training within the industry, independents are no different and not all are competent. The level of competence varies hugely.

It doesn’t matter what industry you look at the same thing is replicated.
Plumbers…
Builders…
Car mechanics…
Joiners…
Cafes…
Restaurants…The list is endless!
Even industries that are regulated to the Nth degree such as Gas Safe, doctors, catering, leisure industries and more still have issues with poor traders, standards and so on. Often with qualifications required way beyond the remit of what would be deemed acceptable for this industry, graduate or even doctorate level of education for some.
It cannot and will not ever be solved. You’d probably not even make a dent even with the huge effort and expense that’d be required.
All it would do is hurt the industry.
So no, I very much doubt that it will ever happen and, if it did you’d probably end up out of a job as the industry would quite probably collapse.

I think we are trying to cure something that can’t be done, just need to let it run it natural life and see where it ends up
